The Frequency of the Mother

Tree of Hope Logo

There are many studies that provide evidence that the brainwaves of an unborn baby sync with the heartbeat of the mother. The preliminary findings of a recent study provide evidence of another facet of the mother/infant bond and demonstrate further that electromagnetic waves produced by one person’s heartbeat can be detected by the brains and nervous systems of others around them.

Before a child is born, it is in sync with the brain waves and heartbeat of the mother. That interaction continues throughout life, whether the connection is good or bad.

In a conversation with someone on this topic, the observation was made, “The mother is the tuner!” That is a powerful thought. Imagine a radio dial, and the mother turning the tuning knob. If she is on the right frequency, there is a nice sound, but if not, there is very disturbing static. As I thought about all of this, I wondered, as I have many times, about the differences between the mother and the father. Which one is harder to lose? Which one has the more valuable input into the lives of their children? It might seem like a silly question, because how can you ever decide, and why does it matter! When I think about it, I know that the father has a far different role and input than the mother. The father is the provider, protector, moral compass, in many ways, the teacher-of-life-lessons, the leader. But he does not have the energetic or electromagnetic connection that the mother has. In thinking about it, I thought to myself, “The father is the balancer.” If the mother is the tuner, the father is the balancer. They should work together perfectly to provide an environment where a child can safely and successfully grow.

If the tuner is off, and the balancer is out of balance, imagine the difficulty for the child growing up in such a world. One day a child said to me that some of the chaos in his childhood had caused him to be “disorganized.” I thought it was insightful for a child to see the inward disorder in that manner. Order is necessary for a child to thrive. Balance and tuning provide an optimum environment. Imagine a flywheel that gets off balance. It can soon fly completely apart!

The electromagnetic fields of the mother and infant are intermingled, overlapping. This tuning initiates a connection that cannot be broken. When it is broken by separation or neglect, it leaves an empty hole in the hearts of both individuals. I’ve seen many people who had a terrible mother, and one might think that they would finally be angry and walk away, but the worst mothers are often the ones whose children long for them the most. I now understand that the child is seeking that tuning, that tuning in to the electrical frequency of a mother that can organize and order the inner activity and bring inner calm. It’s a powerful connection with so much potential for harm or for good.
