Meet Camilla Smith

Camilla Smith received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Counseling from Mid-Continent University (Mayfield, KY) and a Master’s Degree in Counseling and Human Development from Lindsey Wilson School of Professional Counseling (Columbia, KY). She completed the Certificate Program in Traumatic Stress Studies from The Trauma Center, JRI (Justice Resource Center, Boston). These studies in developmental trauma and traumatic stress led her to become focused on the treatment of complex trauma and dissociative disorders. She has also spent several years working in the substance abuse treatment field and her work with addiction has led her to an understanding of how developmental trauma and dissociative/fragmented personality play into the problem of addiction.  Her approach to therapy is focused on trauma and addiction.

Camilla’s studies in the field of developmental trauma have led her in the direction of interventions focusing on addiction and dissociative disorders. There are many useful treatments for substance abuse, but without solving the deep and traumatic damage of neglect, abuse and disrupted attachment, most substance abuse treatments have a very low rate of success. Without healing of deep emotional wounds, recovery can be very difficult.  Her approach to treatment involves working with dissociative parts, (Internal Family Systems) and body-based therapies such as Trauma Sensitive Yoga, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and other methods of reconnecting with the body.
